Job Summary:
The Service Drop Designer creates drop paths for the drop bury crews to bury fiber as requested to service customers, by performing the following: Prepares a drop form with a designed route to the customers home using Google Earth, Redlines, customer input, and easement rights; Calls 811 to get utilities marked for the bury crews; Sends the 811- ticket number and the drop form to the drop bury coordinator to have all work
performed; Tracks all locations and documents due dates for all work to be completed.
Qualification Requirements:
a. Education: High School Diploma is required for the role. Associate's/Technical Degree - two years is preferred for the role.
b. Experience Level:
i. 1 years of Telecommunications experience is Preferred.
ii. 1 years of Underground Utility experience is Preferred.
iii. 3 years of Outside Plant, Fiber or FTTX Design or Drafting experience is Preferred.
iv. Fiber or Cable Broadband experience. Outside plant design knowledge.
v. Other candidates with a strong technical background and substantial industry or military experience will be considered.
vi. Prior work experience in a technical or construction environment preferred.
vii. Fiber optic network design experience.
viii. Must interpret technical material and blueprints.
c. Job Skills & Knowledge:
i. Microsoft Office experience.
ii. Basic PC skills utilizing laptop devices and basic software applications (MS Word, Excel, Web Browser).
iii. Communication skills: Must be able to clearly and successfully communicate to customers internal and external, listen effectively, present your ideas, write clearly and work well solo or in a group setting.
iv. Ability to read and comprehend written materials. Ability to communicate effectively in both face-to-face and electronic communication.
v. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and other employees. This skill is critical to the success of this position. Technicians must be able to successfully articulate the services provided to customers of any ability with patience, empathy and gratitude.
d. Training and certifications: Cable, DOCSIS or fiber optic certifications for broadband technician positions are preferred for this position. If candidates do not hold these certifications, they must demonstrate their knowledge and competency or provide proof of equivalent industry certifications.
e. Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver's license required, DCJS certification preferred.
