A Day in the Life
As a Distinguished Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for software and firmware development and will lead the design and development of various modules and interfaces in the product development programs, to ensure that patient experience is seamless across the whole platform of devices and software. The primary role for this position is architecting the high-level Software Architecture and design along with embedded and application software, and software interfaces of the overall medical device system. As part of this role, you will also coordinate technical discussions and problem solving for software projects and collaborate with the platform and system architects on the impacts of design decisions. You will coach other engineers on best practices and new technologies and review designs and architectures of the development team. You will be a key interface between the software team and other software teams and functions including participating in change control and risk analysis activities as part of the software quality process.
Key Technical Competencies
Expert in Software engineering best practices for medical or regulated product development.
Expert in software engineering best practices for software design and development.
Developing systems using Bluetooth Low Energy communication devices or protocols.
Ensure engineering decisions are made to support overall system design.
Interpret, understand and provide feedback on software requirements for a project. Perform requirement analysis to determine completeness and compliance with software system.
Software modules and interface requirements definition, flow down and verification, interface design architecture at system and implementation through products
Pursues industry best practices and technology trends. Collaborates with industry thought leaders
Recognized as a technical leader of software development methods for safety critical, fault tolerant real-time software, and current embedded system technologies
Risk management activities to identify areas where a development project must implement specific security controls and recommendations for system wide security enhancements, risk assessment and mitigation plans for market -released products

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Education Required:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or
related Engineering or Sciences field
Years of Experience:
• 1 5 + years of progressive embedded and software systems engineering experience in product development with a Bachelor's degree or 13 + years of progressive embedded systems engineering experience in product development with a Master's degree.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$186,400.00 - $279,600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
