Yard Hand (Transportation)
The Yard Hand is responsible for assisting with carrying out tasks required to successfully achieve the service department objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Haul, block and launch boats Line handling for vessels coming and going from docksAssist with blocking on rail carsPerform general boat maintenance and service to yard-based tugboatsOperate yard machinery including forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, yard boat, ship-lift, graving dock, etc.Assist with rigging loads for crane operationsMaintenance and care of all HBL equipmentCleanliness and organization of the blocking shed and slipwaysAvailability to work overtime when requiredCarry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related trainingWear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work areaReport all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious marina experience preferredHeavy forklift experience a plusAbility to ascend and descend a ladderAbility to work in all weather conditionsAbility to work in confined spacesAbility to lift 50 poundsBasic boat handling skills a plusStrong boat handling skills in various weather conditionsAbility to work safely around waterMust be able to swimMust have valid driver's license
