Research Assistant Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - McGovern Medical School (Finance)
Under the direction of the Professor and Vice Chair for Research, the Assistant Professor will be advancing the research program in pathogenic spirochetes.
The successful candidate will join the research group and work on an NIH-supported project to develop systems to support axenic culture and genetic manipulation of Treponema pallidum .
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Development and implementation of research projects based on research goals, preliminary data, background reading, and computational approaches.
2. Performance of laboratory and computational research with thorough documentation of research approaches, data, and analysis and interpretation.
3. Preparation and publication of research results in scientific articles, abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and (where appropriate) online databases and postings.
4. Participation in preparing grant applications, reports, research approvals and certifications, and other information needed to continue or expand research.
5. Participation in the maintenance and, as needed, expansion and updating of a strong laboratory environment.
6. Involvement in other activities at UTHealth Houston and other organizations related to career plans and development as a scientist and faculty member.
Qualifications:
The applicant must have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in microbiology, molecular biology, biology, or a related field and preferably a background in research of pathogenic spirochetes. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a record of accomplishment in research production and a strong background and technical expertise in bacterial pathogenesis, cell, and molecular biology, and who is willing to work with rabbits.
