ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Center for Onchocerciasis Diagnostics is housed in the Center for Global Health and Interdisciplinary Research in the USF Interdisciplinary Research Building. IDRB provides office, classroom and laboratory facilities for faculty, non-tenure earning faculty, postdoctoral scholars, visiting scientists, staff, students, and other employees and volunteers. Research is supported by competitive sponsored research agreements and contracts.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The biological scientist will be responsible for performing quality control studies for ELISA / RT-PCR optimization, antigen production and protein purification, and laboratory supply procurement support.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execute basic research methods, including recombinant DNA cloning, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, genomic DNA & RNA purification, microscopy, RT-PCR, ELISA, Bradford Assay, etc.
Inventory of supply orders for program related consumables/reagents and assist with satellite facility packaging/shipping.
Accurately obtain, analyze, and record experimental data as well as general laboratory support as needed under the supervision of the program supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Bachelors Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biomedical sciences or related field.
PREFERRED:
Candidates with training in microbiology, RT-PCR, ELISA and recombinant protein production is a plus. Individuals with at least two years of laboratory research experience are encouraged to apply.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
This position requires experience with basic research methodology, and prior work with recombinant DNA cloning techniques and purification, RT-PCR, and ELISA are a plus. General laboratory knowledge and data management skills are required. Training will be provided.
