Personal Banking Manager
Responsible for delivering an exceptional client service experience while servicing clients with a full range of banking products and services. Responsible for overseeing the execution and/or submission of various administrative and operational activities related to clients, and banking and lending products and services. Interacts with clients in person, via telephone and email, responding to inquiries and providing information as requested. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, establishing and/or submitting requests for opening, maintaining and servicing client accounts, executing money movement, preparing and producing client materials and reports, resolving client inquiries, as well as maintaining complete and accurate recordkeeping. Provide maintenance and holistic advice on assigned relationships by cross selling and identifying client needs.
Of critical importance is the enforcement and adherence to the required banking guidelines, procedures and policies involved with requested activities. Additionally, the Personal Banking Manager is expected to serve as a mentor to their team and to strive to help evolve the processes, procedures and operating environment of their overall Wealth Management office.
Primary Duties
1. Servicing clients with a full range of banking products and services. Conducts career development guidance for bankers, provides input for hiring and disciplinary actions, and provides hands-on training to staff.
2. Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work.
3. Understands the business model and all products and services and engages appropriate business unit subject matter experts to explore potential opportunities with the client. Provides maintenance and holistic advice on assigned relationships by cross selling and identifying client needs.
4. Oversees the execution and/or submission of daily client account servicing activities within appropriate time frames, including but not limited to funds transfers, opening and closing accounts, account maintenance, imaging of documents, and researching of client issues. Serves as primary contact for sensitive clients on a full range of banking and lending related services.
5. Proactively communicates and escalates issues with relationship management and National Client Support Services Team Leaders as appropriate to obtain necessary information to properly resolve the request.
6. Fully understands and enforces adherence to all policies, procedures and compliance guidelines to ensure mitigation of risk and promptly escalates any issues and/or concerns to management.
7. Demonstrates expertise and provides direction to banking and lending partners in the day to day operations of a banking practice. Monitors and verifies account setup, maintenance and service for accuracy and completeness. Periodically reviews work for accuracy, ensuring that performance adheres to current standards, policies and procedures. Communicates to staff and management errors uncovered or processes in need of improvement.
8. Maintains a strong knowledge of the various business applications critical to client and account servicing, including on-line tools, and seeks to expand knowledge of the latest enhancements to Northern Trust partner and client technology and/or systems in order to maintain highest standards of servicing.
9. Monitoring and completion of daily, monthly, quarterly and annual audits as well as operational activities and reports, such as Aged Overdrafts, Check Referrals, Audit Checklists, Documentation Deficiencies, Office Differences, Limit Violations, etc.
10. Assumes selective administrative assignments; participates and directs project oriented tasks, as directed by unit manager.
11. Liaison for security issues as well as working with external vendors related to office issues (Red Hawk, Diebold, JLL, etc). May also be required to assist vendors and/or consultants with system related issues (Encore, Insight, etc.).
12. May have direct interaction with committees and/or Senior Management.
13. Able to serve as a key subject matter expert and mentor to other more junior level employees.
14. More technically sound in area of expertise and has broader knowledge of other areas.
15. Delivers a work product that requires less revision.
16. Able to facilitate discussions and reach decisions.
17. Conducts career development processes, provides input for staffing and provides hands-on training to staff.
Additional Duties
1. Coordinates with CSST to execute daily client transaction activity and transaction processing including fees, payments and borrowing; handles inquiry resolution; obtains appropriate documentation necessary for credit underwriting, monitoring and credit file maintenance; requests and ensures systems information is up-to-date; execution of client servicing events, communicating with clients and other internal and external partners.
2. Coordinates with the CSST team on deposit related transaction processing including account opening, exception clearing, overdrafts, etc.
3. Oversees development of appropriate action plans for client servicing and coordinates with other team members across disciplines to ensure execution and follow-up.
4. Documents services provided, specialized procedures and ongoing written communications with client as appropriate in managing daily activity.
5. Develops clear understanding of clients need behind service requests and communicates to service partners. Obtains appropriate information from partners and client to facilitate service changes or transactions.
6. Assists Private Bankers and lenders with internal administration of accounts, business development and client presentations for Banking.
7. Identifies service efficiency enhancements, process improvements and service delivery using creative and proactive measures.
8. Communicates with clients regularly to inform them of account set-up or status, past due loans, document requests or other information.
9. Develops and maintains working knowledge of loan agreements, financial statements and other documentation required to monitor client relationships.
10. Is well versed in the compliance requirements for new accounts and relationships. Prepares compliance certificates, monitors loan document deficiencies and reviews compliance reports for adherence to policy and procedures.
11. Reviews loan documents, may attend loan closings to help review documentation with clients, follows up on missing loan documentation.
12. Develops and maintains a working knowledge of various business applications critical to relationship management including client on-line tools.
13. Participates in inter-discipline training within the office/region. Acts as a technical resource or expert for other account managers on process or procedures for delivery of service.
14. Coordinates due diligence on loans such as obtaining money market rates, ordering of appraisals and other items necessary for loan booking.
15. Proactively engages in the renewal process by reviewing reports of maturing credits and coordinates the receipt of required information from client for renewal process.
16. Responsible for identifying and resolving problems within established guidelines.
17. Works effectively as a team member but also independently.
18. Knowledgeable of the core aspects of the job.
19. Working towards becoming proficient in all areas of the job.
20. Running and creating formal reports.
Qualifications
Minimum 15 Years of related experience.
Knowledge of banking operations, products and services, acquired through related work experience is preferred.
Knowledge of federal regulations and banking guidelines, usually acquired through related work experience or formal training.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills are required to identify, research and/or resolve requests, as well as to manage conflicting priorities and workflow.
Ability to think critically and work well independently and as part of a team.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Leadership and organizational skills are required to develop periodic goals and to manage and motivate team members towards the goals set.

This is an office-based position and for the effective performance of this role, the duties and responsibilities must be carried out onsite.

Salary Range:
$85,330 - 145,130 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
