Shop Mechanic Lead (Transportation)
Pay Rate: Starting at $38/hour *based on experience
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
Lead Mechanic Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Lead Mechanic to join our team to assemble, maintain, and repair machinery and vehicles. As a Lead Mechanic, you will ensure the functionality, safety, and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems. Ideal candidates will have strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and experience with a wide range of machines and tools, following strict safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble and build machines or mechanical components according to specifications
- Inspect and troubleshoot machines, engines, and transmissions to identify and diagnose issues
- Run diagnostic tests and maintain detailed logs of all work performed
- Conduct repairs with an emphasis on maximizing functionality and reliability
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems
- Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components and replenish necessary fluids
- Advise on correct maintenance practices and preventative measures to machine users
- Undertake additional duties as required, such as repairs of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles, etc.
- Experience with heavy equipment is a plus
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 8 years of proven experience as a Mechanic
- Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems
- Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers)
- Ability to follow established procedures, read instruction manuals, and wiring schematics
- Must have basic hand tools for daily use
- Commitment to adhering to health and safety regulations
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong physical stamina and good overall fitness
- Positive attitude and reliable attendance
- High school diploma preferred; certification from a vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required
