Responsibilities
Perform duties required to transport the company's freight and product via ocean, motor and rail carriers and ensure timely and accurate accounting and payment of invoices. Manage vendor relationships ensuring cost/quality objectives. Coordinate, schedule, document and manage international shipments of incoming merchandise from origin to destination, including interfacing with mills, ocean carriers, inland carriers, warehouses, customs brokers, buyers and customers, to meet delivery expectations. Maintain shipping costs variables, pricing and routes, rates between parties, and fuel surcharges. Audit and Reconcile invoices, shipping documents, and purchase orders for shipment compliance requiring knowledge of accounting principles, and terms of purchase, sale, credit, payment and shipment. Handle internal customer inquiries for pricing, routing, shipment location, and estimated arrival. May select and negotiate pricing with carriers. May coordinate with suppliers and sales team to optimize freight and minimize cost. Maintain and gain relevant knowledge that impact transportation and shipping best practices and innovation. Monitor operation performance and continuously improve internal systems, processes, and methods to maximize EBITDA. Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: College degree or equivalent work experience in related job function. Working conditions are an office environment with minimal physical exertion.
Preferred qualifications: Prefer three (3) years of experience in a building materials distribution or transportation role. Position requires specialized on-the-job training period; candidates must possess or have the willingness to learn a variety of different aspects in the transportation industry. Ability to understand and solve a variety of different mathematical calculations. Effective communication skills, with an emphasis on proofreading, editing, and transportation terminology. Knowledge of different computer applications including: Microsoft word; excel, and outlook. Basic knowledge of various aspects in ocean, rail, and the trucking industry.
