The Transit-Oriented Communities Intern plays a key role in supporting RTD's efforts to build sustainable, transit-oriented communities. This position involves conducting research, analyzing data, contributing to policy development, and supporting grand-funded planning projects. Interns will gain valuable experience in urban planning and transit development, while contributing to RTD's mission to connect communities and enhance mobility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential:

  • Conduct research and analyze data related to transit-oriented communities, planning, and transportation topics.
  • Collect and manage various data sets, including parking counts and real estate development metrics.
  • Conduct research and contribute to reports, studies, plans, and policy discussions that support the Planning Department's objectives.
  • Support grant-related activities, including grant applications, grant management and grant-funded planning projects.
  • Prepare presentations on Planning Department topics, including maps and supportive graphics
  • Monitor local real estate, business, and metropolitan news to keep RTD's Transit Oriented Development (TOD) database up to date.
  • Perform administrative tasks on behalf of the Planning Department (e.g. summarizing notes from public meetings)
  • Represent RTD and the Planning Department professionally during internal and external interactions.
  • Other transit, transportation, and planning support duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Currently enrolled in a college degree-granting academic program in good standing.
  • Colorado residency.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Ability to meet RTD's hiring standards (criminal history, drug use, driving record).
  • Professional certifications and bilingual skills are a plus.

Preferred:

  • Preferred: Current student working towards a Master's Degree in Urban Planning.  Will also consider graduate students in related degree programs such as Urban Studies, Real Estate, etc.
  • May consider: Students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as planning, real estate, or urban studies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use sound judgement.
  • Preferred: skills in data visualization and graphics.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT & REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment is a typical office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Maintain a valid Colorado driver's license through duration of internship.
  • Position may work up to 20 hours per week and is not RTD benefit eligible.
  • Position will align with fall, spring, or summer academic semesters.
  • Employment is temporary and will be evaluated at the completion of each academic semester or continuation based on business need and work performance.

Pay Range:

$15.32 - $19.38 Hourly
