Lead Wind Technician (Finance)

ALLETE Clean Energy is seeking a Lead Wind Technician to join our team in Apache, Oklahoma to lead field operations and manage the crew at designated wind turbine project sites or work areas. In this role, you will oversee and evaluate current activities and new processes within the assigned project or work areas, in addition to performing hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on the wind turbines. When you join ALLETE Clean Energy as a Lead Wind Technician, you will guide and support the team on safety standards, operating and maintenance procedures, environmental compliance, company policies, and good housekeeping practices. Additionally, you will assist crews in adhering to proper work processes, ensuring accurate completion of daily work reports, and promptly submitting these reports to the Team Leader.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide guidance to O&M service providers on wind turbine generator maintenance and repair.
• Assist with high-voltage system maintenance and repair, including switching and operating equipment like pad-mount transformers, to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the substation.
• Operate telehandler to load and unload heavy components.
• Collaborate with management to achieve business objectives.
• Oversee facility operations during normal and emergency conditions, following operating procedures to maintain safe and efficient operations.
• Develop and implement safety-sensitive procedures for daily operations and maintenance, promoting continuous improvement while minimizing occupational hazards.
• Assist in preparing plans, reports, and other documentation required by management, regulatory authorities, and other agencies to ensure compliance with federal and state
• environmental, health, and safety regulations, permits, and operational requirements.
• Foster positive working relationships and interact effectively with management, peers, subordinate personnel, landowners, external contractors, government authorities, other stakeholders, and the public.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company safety rules, environmental permits, regulations, and practices.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a wind technician training program is strongly preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Internal candidates: Successful completion of all training, education courses, and/or skill level testing required for Wind Technician III level work is required.
• External candidates: Six years or more technical wind industry experience, OR ten years or more experience working with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical maintenance, is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• This position will report regularly in person to Apache, OK.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to meet the typical physical/mental/environmental demands of the position:
  • This role is highly physically demanding and performed outdoors in various weather conditions. You must be capable of climbing, carrying up to 100 pounds, and occasionally working in confined spaces.
  • While performing this job, you will frequently encounter moving mechanical parts, high and precarious locations, particulate matter, loud noise levels, and the risk of electrical shock. Additionally, you may occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
  • Operate independently in mechanical and electrical situations, following provided instructions.
• Understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
• Understand occupational hazards and safety precautions for field and shop/warehouse positions.
• Skillfully use regular and specialized tools and equipment for field and shop/warehouse positions.
• This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

BENEFITS:

• The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $37.50 - $46.60. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
