Assistant Professor, Geology (Finance)
The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is seeking to fill two tenure track Assistant Professor positions in Geology, starting Fall 2025. Preference will be given to those applicants specializing in sedimentology & stratigraphy and structural geology. Additional areas of expertise that would be useful include hydrogeology, GIS/remote sensing, geophysics, and petroleum geology. Candidates are expected to 1) teach upper-level courses in geology, 2) mentor undergraduate research students, 3) seek external funding, and 4) be active in student recruitment. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in geology at the time of appointment.
About UHD:
UHD is a teaching university with tenure-track faculty that teaches 21 contact hours over two long semesters. Teaching responsibilities for this position include undergraduate geology courses based on expertise and the needs of the department. In addition to providing student-centered pedagogy in all courses, this position requires the establishment of a successful research program that actively engages undergraduate students. The faculty member is expected to pursue funding to support their research and to engage in service activities that support the mission of the department and UHD.

The Department: The Department of Natural Sciences (NS) offers undergraduate degree plans leading to the Bachelor of Science in Geosciences, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Biological and Physical Sciences; the Bachelor of Arts in Biology; and the Bachelor in Science Completion RN to BSN. The NS department strives to engage all students in the undergraduate research experience and/or other high-impact educational experiences.
