Staff Geophysicist (Finance)
Job Summary
Murphy Oil Corporation is looking for a Staff Geophysicist to work operated and non-operated Gulf of Mexico (GOM) deepwater fields for the subsurface development department. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in generating development and exploitation prospects through seismic interpretation, seismic mapping, qualitative / quantitative seismic interpretation and multi-disciplinary data to recommend development and infill wells. They will also have a demonstrated ability to map regionally in addition to detailed prospect interpretation; integrating well control and seismic is required. The Staff Geophysicist will need to document results and develop a concise supporting presentation to clearly communicate recommendations to management, partners and regulatory authorities in seismic interpretation, seismic mapping, qualitative / quantitative seismic interpretation, as well as lead identification, prospect evaluation, and prospect maturation. AVO analyses will be part of the routine workflow for this position. seismic interpretation constructing field models and experience in well planning and drilling. They should have expertise in Petrel together with an understanding of geologic models for field development, resource/reserve estimation and well trajectory planning is required.
The Staff Geophysicist should be a self-starter that is comfortable contributing in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. They will provide geophysical and geological support for Gulf of Mexico development and exploration programs, including seismic interpretation, seismic mapping, qualitative / quantitative seismic interpretation, as well as lead identification, prospect evaluation, and prospect maturation. AVO analyses will be part of the routine workflow for this position. The candidate should be proficient in HampsonRussell, DUG or Rockdoc for AVO analysis.
The Staff Geophysicist will demonstrate a record of varied technical exposure to many global basins & petroleum systems with career focus to date in the Gulf of Mexico.
The ideal candidate will have a record of supporting development in addition to generating near field exploration prospects in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Staff Geophysicist should be experienced in well planning with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines including Drilling, Subsurface and Regulatory.
The Staff Geophysicist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
