Job Summary:Act as liaison between patient & physician, schedule all ambulatory surgeries & procedures. Pre-certifies procedures with insurance companies. Counsels patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibility. Duties and Responsibilities: Schedule patient ambulatory surgical procedures & post-operative appointmentsCoordinate combined surgical cases with second surgeons office; confirming procedure codes, lens calculations and any other special circumstances to ensure the accurate scheduling of the caseAnswer surgical scheduling phone line in a pleasant, professional mannerVerify patient demographic & insurance information for presentation to insurance carriers in order to obtain authorizationsCoordinate and schedule all medical clearances based on diagnosis, cardiac, pulmonary &/or endocrine issues with PCP, Cardiologist &/or EndocrinologistUnderstand all medical requirements needed prior to surgery for adult & pediatric cases based on location of planned proceduresFollow up on preoperative surgical paperwork to forward to the pre surgical testing department at hospital/surgical centerInform hospital/surgical center of any special surgical needsInteract with technical & nursing staff to ensure that all medical histories, medications & allergies are accurate based on patient confirmationEnter appointment information & scan related paperwork into EMRReview the next working day scheduleNotify appropriate physician when adding on emergency case within a 24 hour periodCoordinate physicians block schedule working with hospital/surgical center Nurse ManagerVerify doctor/facility insurance participation prior to scheduling caseCounsel patients pre-operatively regarding their potential financial obligation & collect pre-surgical coinsurance/copayments/deductiblesLiaison to billing department regarding payment plansPost surgical charges on a daily basis per established guidelinesEnsure there are no schedule conflictsPerform other related duties as assigned Position Requirements: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.TRAVEL IS REQUIRED: Westbury, Rockville Centre, Great Neck, and HauppaugeExcellent customer relationsKnowledge of EMR requiredExcellent written and oral communication skillsKnowledge of third party billing requiredMedical office experience requiredStrong knowledge of coding a plusFlexibility to travel to different offices
