SUMMARY: Responsible for performing highly specialized, professional level accounting duties according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare and post journal entries necessary to complete monthly accounting for assigned areas. Identify and assist with improving financial processes. Review costs and trends for errors and opportunities to reduce costs. Determine and prepare proper monthly allocations of costs for various lines of business. Implementation and monitoring of grant funds, ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of the grant agreement. Prepare post-award grant reimbursement requests, post related journal entries as necessary, and support related regulatory audits as needed. Performs statistical, cost and financial analysis of financial reports and data, and prepares summaries for management. Ability to lead financial review meetings with management and perform analysis in support of the operations. Recommends cost improvement measures. Interprets data to determine past financial performance and/or to project financial probability. Reviews costs and performs cost/benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs. Develops financial reports to determine forecasts, trends and results. Assists in the development, enhancement and implementation of policies and procedures. Provides support to less experienced accounting personnel. May assist with general ledger maintenance activities.
PEOPLE MANAGER: NEDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in accounting required. or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE: 5 - 8 years of experience in a progressively responsible accounting role.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook and Excel om in addition to advanced proficiency with accounting systems, such as Oracle. Experience with grant management a plus.
COMPENTENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment. Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Knowledge of basic accounting principles such as payables, receivables accruals, and allocations. Knowledge of electronic data processing as it applies to finance and accounting. Knowledge of purchasing, procurement, budgeting and administrative management.
OTHER: Advanced degree or Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Extended use of a computer keyboard, viewing of a computer monitor and the ability to sit for long periods of time.
